Curly Short Hair for a Peppy Look

Curl is a mischievous, bouncy and lively hairstyle. When you are feeling down, going for a curly haircut can actually do wonders for your mood. Some women are born with natural curly hair while many of us have to go to a salon to get curls done. Short curly hair is easier to maintain and more voluminous than long or medium curly hair.
For those who have the advantage of natural curly hair, a short cut in a saloon and some styling product at home should do the trick. You can choose between frizzy curls or longer softer ringlets. Start by getting a short haircut.

At home, shampoo and condition your hair. However, remember, if the conditioner turns your hair too soft, the curls may not stay. You can use your conditioner diluted or wash it out soon after application. Apply anti-fizz product to protect your hair from going dry and out of control.

For soft ringlets, apply straightening gel to front bangs and the hairline and blow dry to set them. For the rest of the hair, separate into two parts and clip one side up. Attach a diffuser to your hair dryer and blow dry each section on medium heat, using your fingers to lift the strands for drying. This will create soft ringlets all through the back. Don’t run your fingers through the hair or it will make it frizzy. Use hair spray and hair shine to finish up. You can also use a curling iron on the soft curls to make them more pronounced.

For those of us who don’t have any natural curl in the hair, it isn’t necessary to go for perm or apply tons of hair products. Moreover, permed hair is harder to maintain and can damage brittle hair as well. It is actually easy to get short curly hairstyle right at home.

First, go get a nice bob or layered short hair cut in the salon. You can either chose to get the curling done in the salon, or if you intend to switch styles often, you can do it at home. Wash your hair and towel dry it. For soft curls and ringlets, dry your hair using small round brush, twisting the hair around the brush instead of just rolling it. Use the blow drier to set the curl and then use hair spray to hold the curls in place.

Hot rollers are also another option for curling this type of hair. Shampoo and condition your hair first. Then blow dry until almost dry but with some moisture left in the hair. Curl the hair around rollers and leave them to dry. You can either sleep with curlers on or dry your hair by sitting in front of a fan. Don’t use blow-drier as the air needs to be cool.

You can also apply the rollers on towel-dried hair. This will work better if you are in a salon and can use the hood drier. At home, air dry over night, remove the curlers and use the finger to separate the curls, apply hair spray to hold the curls in place.

If you don’t have curlers, you can use old fashion bobby pins to curl the hair as well. If you are at home, just let it dry over night.
The easiest way to add some curls to your hair is to braid them before they are complete dry, leave the braid on overnight and use the curling iron to accentuate the curls if you are happy. This will not work on super short haircuts though.

Curls are not as hard to maintain as they are made out to be, unless of course it is dependent on too much chemical hair products. Be ready to spend some time setting your hair every morning. It is a small price to pay for the gorgeous locks that will make your day brighter and lighter.
